Outrage in Delaware (ed: understatement of the young year)
This picture is from a Milford, Delaware playground. Milford is in Southern Delaware in the very conservative Sussex County. I originally saw this picture on Facebook, from a liberal friend downstate, who was sharing it via an original posting of the very nonliberal Dan Gaffney, a conservative talk show radio host. It is nice to know that the outrage concerning this photo is bipartisan. And what is so outrageous about it, you ask?
Well, you can read what it says in English. In Spanish it says (paraphrasing) “You have to have a permit to play here or you will be arrested.” The english version contains no information about needing a permit or else you will be subject to police action. It is an obvious intimidation tactic and a not so subtle “Whites Only” sign.
And, no, it’s not Photoshopped. The sign is indeed real.
Can there be a playground at which white supremacists and their kids get arrested?

These images are supposed to hearken back to Blackamoor images as decorative, but let’s look at what the term Blackamoor means.

So, this is from Dolce & Gabbana’s 2013 collection. Let’s talk about the decision to re-purpose the racist imagery of the past as fashion for the future! While we’re talking about that, let’s also talk about the process from conception to execution for a collection which only images of black people as servants, and yet no actual black models were present on the runway. What does that thought process look like & how exactly will people try to spin this as harmless? Oh right, I’m certain any references to actual history will be met with the insistence that things are different now, and it just happens that the only black faces in this collection belong to images of slaves.

Walton Henry Butler, a 59-year-old white male, was arrested after he admitted shooting Everett Gant with a .22 rifle. Butler was charged with attempted murder with a hate crime enhancement.
Gant, an African-American, is in stable condition at Bay Medical Center.
According to the arresting affidavit, an incident occurred earlier in the day when a Pamela Rogers came to Butler’s apartment in the Pine Ridge Apartment complex on Garrison Avenue in Port St. Joe with a child in tow. Butler immediately used a racial slur to refer to the child.
Investigators discovered that Butler had been making similar racial slurs to other children in the complex during recent days.
Rogers became upset and left Butler’s apartment and Gant went to Butler’s apartment to discuss the comments.
Upon arriving at the apartment, Butler shot Gant between the eyes and shut his sliding glass door, leaving Everett to bleed outside the door.
Butler called 911, finished cooking supper, sat down and began eating. Nugent arrived on the scene and contacted Butler by phone, at which time Butler told Nugent to come in, he was eating dinner and had put up the gun.
Nugent said Butler acted as if inconvenienced when put under arrest, saying he could not understand the problem as “he had only shot a ni**er.”
Butler was in the Gulf County Jail after first appearance this morning.
This was 2012 people.

Petition to stop Ricksantorum-2012.
This is a call to arms for every Tumblr user who is tired of the hate, bigotry, racism, sexism and homophobia spreading on Tumblr. For too long we have reported Tumblr user http://ricksantorum-2012.tumblr.com/ to Tumblr staff only to have little to nothing happen. For too long we have put up with his hateful bullying on this great website that we call home. This is a petition to tell Tumblr staff that we have had enough of this bigoted trolling. This is not an attack, this is a rebellion. This is the first step to a better Tumblr. This is change, and this can only happen if we all unite against the evil that has plagued this great website.
If you want Tumblr to ban the user ricksantorum-2012 from tumblr, if you want to put an end to his bullying and hate, if you want to stand up for what is right and what is equal, all you have to do is reblog this post. In 1951, the Georgia state welfare director, making an argument for denying Aid to Dependent Children grants to mothers with more than one illegitimate child, noted that “Seventy percent of all mothers of more than one illegitimate child are Negro… . Some of them, finding themselves tied down to one child are not averse to adding others as a business proposition.”
The precise economic principle most grossly violated by these women was, according to many, that they were getting something (ADC) for nothing (another black baby). Entering into this scam made single black mothers into chiselers, determined to cheat the public with a bad sell. White babies, of course, entered a healthy seller’s market, with up to ten couples competing for everyone one adoptable infant.
Spokespeople for this point of view believed that black unmarried mothers should pay dearly for the bad bargain they foisted on society, especially on white taxpayers. Governor Orville Faubus complained in 1959 that ,” By taxing the good people to pay for [ADC], we are putting a premium on illegitimacy never before known to the world.” Many felt that rather than paying for their sins, black women were being paid, by the ADC grants, an exchange that could encourage further sexual and fiscal irresponsibility.

This is why this argument about “babies for welfare checks” is still around, why it has such weight with so many white people, and why the fact that welfare benefits don’t increase NEARLY enough to cover the additional expenses of an additional child doesn’t sway their conviction that Black women on welfare are just “popping out more babies for more money.”
It doesn’t matter HOW MUCH money it is. It doesn’t matter that more white people are on public assistance. It doesn’t matter that having babies for a welfare check defies logic on every possible level. It doesn’t matter how many times you show them the math!
What matters is that Black women who have babies while on public assistance want SOMETHING (“our tax dollars”) for NOTHING (Black babies).
What matters is that Black babies are seen as worthless, because Black life is seen as worthless. And the white outrage is that not only are Black women going around giving birth to Black babies — which is bad enough — but now they want paid (ANY AMOUNT) for this garbage (BLACK LIVES), too?

Reminds me of the Fantasia centaur. The centaur that was black was the servant, while the white looking one got to beautiful and dainty and regal. Same shit, different day.
Funny enough you can’t find these photos online anymore. Perhaps someone managed to backlash on how racist this one was. There was another photoshoot done with another model the same year, in which she played the negligent Park Avenue mother, and the Black woman played the mammy-maid.
The kicker? The maid wasn’t a model. She was an actual maid at the hotel that they pulled into the shoot. Was she compensated? Likely not.

Anyways, the original images are always especially enraging to me because they’re trying to harken back to ancient times. But in ancient times, white people’s ancestors were considered barbaric. They’d be the ones holding the fans, they were slaves:

Sometimes I forget how racist my parents are (part 2)
And then I hear my mom say “‘Yes I does.’ What the hell is that? She sounds like she belongs on a cotton field. It’s ‘Yes I do.’ Have some pride in yourself and get it right.” in response to something a woman said on Judge Judy.
Not even beginning to get into the fact my mom grew up in a primarily black neighborhood and speaks exactly like the woman she was insulting more often than not, I’m starting to lose what energy I had to try and combat these types of statements. Everytime I do, she pulls out my “uncle” Robert as a shield, as well as the same old tired arguments. “We’re so good friends with Robert, you call him UNCLE. We can’t possible be racist!! We’ve had tons of black friends. They all agree with us! You haven’t seen enough of the world. You don’t know what people are really like. You’ll find out we’re right when you’re our age!” and etc.
“We’re old, thus we know better and our racism is justified” does not fucking fly. I’m out of ideas as to how to make them see that.

Leipzig - An international team of scientists have successfully sequenced the Neanderthal genome, and the evidence shows that humans in Europe, Asia and Papua New Guinea carry Neanderthal genes - while African peoples are 100 percent human.

An international team led by scientists from the respected Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig have successfully sequenced 65 percent of the Neanderthal genome. It is the first time that the genetic code of an extinct human relative has been decoded, and the present announcement cam after 4 years of diligent study.
The results of this study, published Thursday last week, are similar to the findings reported (and foretold) last month here in Digital Journal, but the final publication of this study by researchers Svante Pääbo, Adrian Briggs and colleagues truly shows that years of denial about interbreeding between the two primates should now really come to an end.
One of the co-authors of the scientific paper, Adrian Briggs, stated unambiguously that the DNA of “Humans and Neandertals are 99.5 percent identical,” as is quoted in the English language section of Der Spiegel.
Better yet, and a blow to Caucasian and Asian racists, the comparison of the human and Neanderthal genome makes it clear that it is only Africans who are 100 percent Homo sapiens, while in European (including American and Australian settlers) and Asian populations one can find up to 4 percent DNA stemming from the archaic and often maligned Neanderthal species - a hominid that went extinct more than 20,000 years ago. A graphic designer at the BBC has transformed this information into a surprising graphic everyone should take a look at (see above).
Meanwhile, the team keeps working in order to isolate the last 35 percent of the genome as well, and perhaps we’ll see even more interesting revelations in the future.
Detractors remain, of course, especially since archeologists have until now come to different conclusions and have a different timetable when it comes to human evolution. A New York Times article from May 6 gives voice to these two ways of thinking.

The law was supposed to catch THESE guys!
