These images are supposed to hearken back to Blackamoor images as decorative, but let’s look at what the term Blackamoor means.
blackamoor (plural blackamoors)
- (degrading) A person with dark skin, especially (but not necessarily) one from northern Africa [quotations ▼]
- a blackamoor slave, a blackamoor servant; and hence any slave, servant, inferior, or child [quotations ▼]
- (heraldry) a stylized Negro Argent, three blackamoors’ heads couped sable, capped or, fretty gules.
So, this is from Dolce & Gabbana’s 2013 collection. Let’s talk about the decision to re-purpose the racist imagery of the past as fashion for the future! While we’re talking about that, let’s also talk about the process from conception to execution for a collection which only images of black people as servants, and yet no actual black models were present on the runway. What does that thought process look like & how exactly will people try to spin this as harmless? Oh right, I’m certain any references to actual history will be met with the insistence that things are different now, and it just happens that the only black faces in this collection belong to images of slaves.
Dear Fashion industry,
Dolce & Gabbana have always been extreme shits, so them being horribly racist isn’t that surprising. I mean, weren’t they the ones with the super rape-y ads a few years back?
The net is sooooo slloowwww.

Edit: another hour later. STILL ONLY 20 MINUTES IN. uggghghasdf;skldp9tisdlkflknsefijopgHe got 162 years without the possibility of parole for his first offense.

No possibility of parole
For a first offense
Reblogging again for the folks who didn’t see it yesterday.
So this is what “tough on crime” looks like? I read the article and from what I can see.. he never even hurt anyone.
Unbelievable… Well, not actually. It happens all the time so I guess it’s perfectly believable. I just wish it wasn’t. =/

So, somehow, someway, Herman Cain (who isn’t even running for president anymore) topped the infamous Mark Block smoking ad. Any questions? Any questions? The only thing we can think of are questions after this messed-up clip. Like why you killed or endangered that goldfish. (EDIT as the Cain camp says the fish isn’t dead)
Yeah, I think I have just a few…

WHITE, WESTERN men. Ever heard of Satyendranath Bose? No? Ever heard of the boson? Know what the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is trying to prove the existence of? It’s called the Higgs-Boson particle, which would prove something about the origin of the universe (fucked if I know, I’m not a sciencey person per se). A boson is a sub-atomic particle whose name is derived from the last name of Mr. Satyendranath Bose, an Indian scientist who goes totally unrecognized, and whose namesake, the boson, is never capitalized. Google this shit, you can’t make it up. His Wikipedia page is shorter than like Paris Hilton’s.

It is a LOT better than we were expecting coming into it. For some reason, the addition of a baby into everything makes the whole thing much more terrifying.
Though not a meme, I thought people might enjoy this. It’s related to the ask about James Joyce’s works being forever besmirched by reading his love letters. Kate Beaton is an amazing talented comic artist and general smartypants. My reaction closely matched hers. It’s hard to even find the letters on the internet because they’ve been so censored. Dirty, dirty…

I LOVE Hark, A Vagrant! And I’ve somehow managed to avoid Joyce, and had no idea about these letters… I’m a little frightened now.

Through the power of google, I… I… I don’t know what to say. I’ve ready plenty a smut in my day. Watched plenty of smut. These may be the filthiest things I’ve ever seen/read/whatever. Some parts of it, I swear, sound verbatum for the shit people say in pornos. I just.. I’m so confused. D: I thought scatplay was something new!
This is corrective rape.

The fuck?
Look at this fucking rape culture, heterosexism and misogyny.
Well, I’ll make sure to never commit a crime in his jurisdiction, because I know justice won’t be served as long as he is around.
No, really, why is this man a judge.
Oh what the fuck…

We’re #1 — Ten Depressing Ways America Is Exceptional
Let me make it clear at the outset. I too believe in American exceptionalism, although I don’t think God has anything to do with it. But I suspect my perspective will find little favor among Republicans in general and Tea Party members in particular. For I believe that America is exceptional in the advantages we’ve had over other nations, not what we’ve done with those advantages.
Indeed, to me there are two American exceptionalisms. One is the exceptionally favorable circumstances the United States found itself in at its founding and over its first 200 years. The second is the exceptional way in which we have squandered those advantages, in the process creating a value system singularly antagonistic to the changes needed when those advantages disappeared.
This makes me cry. What’s wrong with this country?
omfg. I’m not sure if I’m terrified or thrilled. I’m terrilled!

It’s frightening how addictive it can be, isn’t it? Especially as you start rackin’ up blogs to follow. I’m well over 100. @____@
